LEEDS UNITED SIGN NEW MAN

Junior International from Bangor

WELL-BUILT BACK

G. Gulliver, a full-back, who has played for Bangor City during the last two seasons, was yesterday transferred to Leeds United. Gulliver, a Welsh junior international, is 22, stands 5ft. 9 1/2 in. and weighs 12st. The fee is stated to be a substantial one and Leeds United have also arranged to play a match at Bangor during the next three weeks. Before the end of the week it is expected that two or three other Bangor City players will have joined Football League clubs, many of whose "scouts" have been impressed by the play of the team in recent Birmingham League games.(YP: 8th March 1938)

UNITED RESERVES WIN

"Transfer" Match With Bangor

When Leeds United recently signed Gulliver, a young full back, from Bangor City, part of the agreement between the clubs was that Leeds should take a side to Bangor to play the Birmingham League club. The match was played last night, and United Reserves won by two goals to none. Although not particularly brilliant, it was an entertaining game. Francis opened the score for the United direct from a free-kick, taken just outside the penalty area, and the same player added another goal in the second half. Goldberg played a fine defensive game for Leeds, and Hargreaves, a lively raider, was the best of the forwards. The Bangor forwards, by comparison with the visitors, were a disjointed set. Teams: BANGOR CITY: Hollins; Edwards, Kitson; Scott, Watt, Bamford; Oswald, Jones, Carter, Betnon, Hughes (G.). LEEDS UNITED: Savage; Goldberg, Gulliver; Hampson, Kane, Browne; Armes, Powell, Parry, Francis, Hargreaves.(YP: 31-03-1938)
